Back Pain FAQs

Back pain is common. Most people experience back pain at least once during their lifetime. Back pain can be caused by a variety of different things. This is because your back is composed of many bones and is quite complex. Our team at Walker Chiropractic and Wellness Center in Miramar has put together some of the questions we encounter from our patients regarding back pain.

.

What are the symptoms of back pain?

Back pain symptoms may include spasms, muscle aches, soreness, stiffness, tension, pain that radiates to your legs, and limited flexibility.

What causes back pain?

Back pain may sometimes develop for no reason at all. However, it can sometimes be a result of a disruption in the way your muscles function. Certain medical conditions are linked to back pain such as a slipped disc, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, and degenerative disc disease.

What can I do at home for back pain?

If your back hurts, you should know that back pain often resolves on its own without the need for medical attention. However, you should apply heat or ice, relax, rest comfortably, and take over-the-counter pain medication as little as possible to relieve your back pain at home. Pain medication works wonders but can come with side effects and become less effective over time.

When should I seek medical attention for my back pain?

Many cases of back pain do not require medical attention. However, you should consult a doctor right away if your back pain results from trauma or if your pain is accompanied by pain in your chest, a fever, constant pain, worse pain at night, unexplained weight loss, or an inability to pass urine.

What non-surgical treatment methods are available for back pain?

This is where visiting a chiropractor will come in to play. Chiropractic care involves non-invasive treatment. Treatment plans for chronic back pain include manual therapy, exercise programs, stretching techniques, and acupuncture.
